GINA makes its mark at the ITS World Congress
The GINA (GNSS for INnovative road Applications) project started seven months ago and it is already making its first important steps. During the ITS World Congress the project coordinator, Sara Gutiérrez-Lanza, delivered a speech within the road charging session entitled “GINA-GNSS for innovative road applications: the adoption of EGNOS/GALILEO for road user charging and value added services for the road sector” obtaining the praise of many experts attending the session and attracting the attention of policy makers and public authorities.
From 21 to 25 September the fascinating city of Stockholm hosted the 16th ITS World Congress. More than 5,000 participants from around the world gathered in the Swedish capital to share experiences and build networks and to talk the opportunity to learn more about what ITS can do to improve the efficiency of several operations. The event has also been an excellent opportunity to show the general public how ITS can help them in their daily lives.
During the five-day event, significant time and attention was devoted to GNSS technologies and to electronic road pricing in particular. Sara Gutiérrez-Lanza’s presentation gave a cornerstone contribution to the road charging technical session, putting GINA at the forefront of GNSS-based road pricing.
GINA also attracted the attention of the broad public at the exhibition area. Information and brochures were widely distributed at the European Commission booth.
GINA is offering a unique opportunity to foster the adoption of EGNOS/Galileo in the road sector by addressing the various obstacles preventing GNSS-based road pricing and VAS large-scale take off and considering their positive impacts on different aspects such as congestion and pollution.
